Finding Connection and Support During Divorce: How Our Shift Happens Divorce/Separation Support Group Can Help

Going through a divorce or separation can feel like a rollercoaster of emotions—and often, it feels like you’re the only one on the ride. It’s not clear if (or when) the ride will end and what will happen next.

Our Shift Happens Divorce/Separation Support Groups were created for those who are navigating this complex life transition. In our groups, we offer a safe space where you can share your story, find companionship, and begin to discern the path toward your new beginning.

Why Join a Divorce Support Group?

Divorce and separation can bring waves of emotion - grief, anger, relief, uncertainty - all at once. It’s not just the end of a relationship; it’s the beginning of a new chapter, or even a new book, that can feel completely unknown. For many, this transition is accompanied by feelings of shame or guilt, and a deep sense of isolation. It can be difficult to find people who understand what you’re going through.

We hope to change that. We create a space where:

  • You are not alone: Find others who are on a similar journey and understand the unique challenges of divorce and separation.

  • You can explore your emotions without judgment: We provide a space where feelings of grief, anger, confusion, or even hope are met with compassion.

  • You are supported: Over our six week group, you’ll gain practical tools and insights into how to navigate some of the emotion and psychological complexities of this transition.

What to Expect

Each group meets online via Zoom, making it accessible no matter where you are. The group is structured to offer both emotional support and practical guidance:

  • Session 1: Get to know each other and create a sense of community.

  • Session 2: Explore the first stage of a life transition—endings, letting go, and grieving what has been lost.

  • Sessions 3 & 4: Dive into the "messy middle," that uncomfortable space where you've left what you’ve known, but haven’t quite arrived at your new beginning. The stage is often the most challenging one, but it’s where some powerful growth can happen.

  • Session 5: Explore what "new beginnings" look and feel like and start to imagine the new beginning(s) you are moving toward.

  • Session 6: Reflect on the journey, share insights, and identify what’s next. Many of our groups continue meeting beyond these six weeks because of the strong bonds they’ve formed.

Whether you’re feeling overwhelmed, numb, or unsure of what to do next, this group offers a place to pause, be heard, and begin to see a path forward. Our groups don’t offer easy or simple solutions - rather, the sessions are about giving you time and space to process, reflect, breathe, and begin to rebuild.

Why Choose Us?

Unlike some other options out there, our support groups are non-religious. We welcome people of all beliefs and backgrounds who are looking for a judgment-free zone to process this life change. Our approach sees life transitions as sacred events—times of growth, potential, and challenge. We believe that amidst the pain, there is also an opportunity for transformation, even if that feels far off right now.
